We hope you’ve enjoyed our 2019 articles tailored to elite credit card holders and affluent travelers (who love their points and miles). Here are the highlights of what we covered throughout the year.
Detailed Credit Card Reviews and Product Comparisons
Each of our core cards offers a competitive advantage and overall level of excellence. We completed new meticulous reviews of several elite cards—the 2019 edition of Citi Prestige® Card, Luxury Card Mastercard® Black Card, Chase Sapphire® Reserve, and U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite® Card—detailing where each card fared comparatively as “Best in Class” all the way to “Worst in Class.” Even better, we provided detailed comparisons between the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Preferred as well as the Luxury Card Mastercard Black Card and Gold Card for those wavering between card products within a brand portfolio.
Loyalty Program News
We chronicled the good, the bad, and the ugly of the new Marriot Bonvoy program and the devalued United Mileage Plus Program, alerting readers to major changes within these updated (watered down) loyalty programs. Additionally, we mapped out the expansion of the Hyatt award redemption portfolio with a growing number of opportunities through Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), Alila, Thompson and Destination hotels.
Card-Specific News and Benefits Devaluations
2019 brought a major overhaul to the benefits of almost all our of core cards at Credit Card Pro. Throughout the year, we covered: the massive loss of benefits to Citi Prestige and Premiere cards, the elimination of several keys benefits within the Luxury Card portfolio, and impending changes on American Express cards, both positive and negative. These updates including combing over the fine print of credit card agreements and guides to benefits to simplify details on upcoming changes of the implicit-yet-complicated protections of our core credit cards, including: return protection (when a merchant won’t accept the return of a personal item), purchase protection (when purchased items are lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged), and price protection (insurance against price drops), auto rental collision damage waiver, travel accident insurance, and trip delay protection.
Scoring Biz Class on the Cheap
We flagged some of the best mileage sales of the year on American Airlines and Alaska Airlines and provided insider tips for getting business class on the cheap by buying miles. We also taught you how to unlock a wealth of airline award tickets with the powerful Avios currency, the easily accessible frequent flyer currency of British Airways. In addition, we looked at which credit cards allow transfers to which frequent flyer programs and highlighted how to maximize these credit card point transfers and score the best free seats up in the air.
Airport Lounge News
We love us a good lounge here at Credit Card Pro, and we know you do too! So, we’ve kept you up to date with expansion (and delays) of the American Express Centurion Lounge® Network and all the new Priority Pass™ lounges that have come into the fold over the past year (plus the lounges we lost in 2019).
Trusted Traveler Programs
We’ve continued to report on the expansion of the TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry programs, reporting on milestones for both programs, including the additions of new enrollment centers at select airports, and how to enroll in these trusted traveler programs for free.
We gave you all kinds of tips for traveling smarter including how to use the Luxury Card Concierge app and how enroll in a new T-Mobile calling plan with free international data and texting.
We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of credit cards and rewards programs in 2019. We look forward to keeping you in the credit card know throughout 2020. Happy New Year!
