In early August we reported on the latest growing pains for the Citi Prestige Card, one of our core cards here on CreditCardPro. The card had overhauled its card benefits program with more explicit and less generous terms and conditions.
We’ve previously cited the Citi Prestige Card as “Best in Class” for several cardholder benefits, but many of those benefits were stripped in the July 2018 overhaul. Still, the card kept a few of its top benefits like a “Fourth Night Free” valid at any hotel when booking through Citi Concierge or the ThankYou Portal (this saved some cardholders thousands per year at top hotels and resorts) and free Medevac insurance when booking trips with the Citi Prestige Card.
However, less than a month after the good and the bad of the new “[Cardholders’] Guide to Protection Benefits” was released, the credit card disappeared from Citi’s website. Since August 18, 2018, all active links have redirected to state “Oops! Page Not Found.” The page continues, “We’re sorry, the page you’re looking for no longer exists. Try the links below or sign on to citi.com/creditcards if you’re already a cardmember.” Moreover, applications within Citi bank branches have not been accepted.
Since then, we’ve been anxiously waiting to get an official statement from Citi on the card’s fate. Existing members have not received any notification of further changes or about switching card products. Strangely, it has been business as usual.
Several rumors have been circulating in the blogosphere that the card is gone for good or that new version of the card will appear later this year. Fellow blog site The Points Guy received the following information from a Citi spokesperson: “Our go-to-market strategy continuously evolves to feature different products and offers. We remain committed to the Prestige product and servicing our valued existing cardmembers. We look forward to reintroducing the card for new cardmembers in the near future.”
We hope this is the case. But besides this one quote, Citi’s been completely mum. As soon as we have more information, we’ll update you!
